BASIC DESIGN: BINNERS’ HOOK

Community Engagement & Industrial Design
Volunteer Collaboration with the Binners’ Project, 2015

In 2015, Basic Design was invited to collaborate with the Binners’ Project on a pilot project called the “Binners’ Box”. We facilitated a community engagement session and  based on findings proposed instead a hook, which achieves critical project goals:

  1. Reduces indignity and loud noise of rummaging through bins.
  2. Allows residents to show solidarity with Binners by placing an artefact in their laneway,
  3. Increases efficiency of collection for Binners.
