SPACE ACTIVATION  CONCEPT

Urban scale installation concept
2012

This concept was designed in collaboration with Maya Rowen and Andreas Aiken, as part of a laneway activation initiative in Vancouver’s Chinatown neighbourhood. Our concept is an affordable, transportable and flexible installation. We use PVC pipe, connected with a custom velcro joint, to create a site-responsive archway installation. The installation requires no permanent attachments, and can be modified to any laneway, making use of the urban environment to provide pressure fit holds for the pipe. The shade material is attached with cord and rivets, and is washable and light. This installation would be ideal for nighttime projection, or daytime shade.
